Lishmans of Ilkley

I was approached by a Butcher in Ilkley to hand print some of these bags for him. It was a pretty good learning curve as I had to sort out all the artwork as well, the people that gave me the job didn't really have a clue what screen printing was so that was why I had to sort out the five year olds art work.

In the end I was pleased with my prints, I did 100 of the bags and it is just nice not to get just a design job once in a while, it was fun just to screen print this many things. They were all sold on the website as well.

Magama Books

This is a massive deal. Magma Books is an amazing book shop, they stock all photography, art and graphic design books and magazines. They also sell kind of up-market zines. Paul showed them a zine I made for him and they are interested in stocking it sale or return. We will print a load more and take one in to them as they are pretty much certain they will have them. They have stores in Manchester, Clerkenwell and Covent Garden. Massive exposure.

Kaugummi Books

We have had some talks with a small publishing and sales house in France. They produce amazing books and zines and have said they will stock one of Pauls. This is obviously amazing exposure for him but is also amazing for Workshop as I have noted that Workshop have created the book in the back. It would be cool to send it down to be published and sold.

Paul Phung

After completing the book for Paul Phung within my FMP me and Paul are now starting to look for printers that will print a large format zine on recycled stock, he has a number of zine fairs including one in London, Barcelona and New York, all of which the book has been invited too.

This could be a good opportunity for Paul, myself and Workshop.

Millinery Final

This is the final flier after a small amount of amending. The project as a whole showed me how to work fast for a client, I have worked fast before but never for anyone else, and these guys needed it in four days, so I delivered it in two.

Millinery

I got this small job from the marketing team at college. It is just a quick half a day thing for the Millinery course at college. It needed to appeal to the older audience, so I just went with a few ideas, large photograph and simple.

Quotes for Yearbook

We tried a printer that Qubik Joe recommended. They were good and got back to us straight away but they were also quite expensive, not as expensive as the like of Team or Evolution, but never the less they are expensive. Joe also said that the book might end up cheaper if we dont use a spot colour but a full four colour process. This actually increased the prices if the quotes.

We went to a printers called Jade Press in Leeds. Whilst spending my month at SBT Design, they recommended them and used them for the majority of their jobs. As we were not going for any special effects we felt this was the best printers to go with. We also got two quotes and again, the two colour process was cheaper. We also got a quote for the fliers.

Interacting with printers has been a really kind of useful skill to learn and is something that I am glad I have had to undertake.

Labels

This is amazing, we thought we were going to have to sew them all in, but for £3 more we can just iron them on, haha.

Chimp Leeds

Having known the manager of Hip Leeds for a while, he has p sticks and moved down the road to Chimp. He has bought it and has asked me to do some shirts. Obviously with everything happening at the moment I have asked Tom on board as we will soon be business partners and the owner was more than happy to accommodate that.

We have proposed this idea of voiding something that is in our eyes foolish. We have done some designs about ectoplasm, exorcism and seyances. Putting the large cross though the middle of the design shows the voiding in action.

The manager loved the t's and we will be putting them into production soon.

We tried to get an American Apparel account to print the shirts on but we cant as we don't have a tax number. We have opted to go for some Gildan Heavy's but we will take out the labels and put some workshop ones in ourselves. Cool.

Blog Posts

I have been featured on this blog, it's more for websites but it's still good to get the name out there.

Tom's site has been featured on this blog, but they have picked our work out to feature which is good. It is brilliant that they have recognized the collaboration between us both. This is what we need.

Workshop

Me and Tom have been offered some studio space just outside of Leeds in Harrogate. This is above the barber shop that I did some work for. It's pretty much an offer we can't refuse as we are both exited to be working together and potentially start up a 'business' or as I like to call it, a studio.

This is the logo we have come up with. We want to call it 'Workshop' and feel this is a nice way of communicating that. The logo is clean and simple and reflects the way we work.

Website

New updates on the site and a little re-vamp do get the ball rolling. The photo's are the outcome of a long day in the lighting studio. The site has generated a little work such as a photography book for Paul Phung which is going to be published by small independant book publishers Kaugummi Books.

The site has also been featured in Indexhibit which means it is generating about 3000 hits a day!

Espoke LTD

Another free lance job. Just a flyer for an IT compay in Harrogate. Simple aesthetics but a fair amount of body copy and a map make the back a little busy. Customer was happy though, so so am I.

Barber & Mack

I have recently branded a new up-market gentleman's barber shop in Harrogate. This included signage, identity, flyers and appointment cards as well as small runs of poster prints for the opening. I kept it simple but classy as the aesthetics of the shop

This is a client I would love to keep and continue doing work for as I am doing.
